Abstract: Dr. Yeh established a new field called Onco-cardiology that specializes in providing comprehensive cardiac care to cancer patients. His laboratory made the seminal discovery that Topoisomerase 2b (Top2b) mediates anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity. This finding heralds in a new age of personalized cardio-protection for patient undergoing chemotherapy.  In 1996, Dr. Yeh’s laboratory discovered Sentrin/SUMO, which has revolutionized our understanding of heart disease, cancer, and neuro-degenerative diseases. His laboratory was the first to discover NEDD8, a ubiquitin-like protein modifier that has broad clinical applications. His research on GPI anchor biosynthesis laid the foundation for finding the cause of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria. His laboratory also made major contributions in the use of adult stem cells to treat patients who suffer from heart attack and heart failure.
