Abstract: Nerve growth factor (NGF) signal transduction has been studied using numerous approaches. This presentation will go off the beaten track somewhat, to illustrate not only the beauty, but above all the informative nature of time-lapse confocal fluorescence microscopic analysis of NGF receptor trafficking. Biochemical, molecular and microscopic analysis of wild type and mutated receptor, combined with ligand distribution offer insight into the trafficking and activation of the NGF receptor, TrkA. A brief introduction to the use of novel combinatorial proteins for investigation signaling pathways and cellular processes will be presented.
