报告人简介:
Chenhong Zhang is currently an associate professor for microbiology in School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She got her PhD in 2011 from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and worked in French Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA) as Postdoc Fellowships from 2011-2013. For more than 10 years, under the conceptual framework of Koch’s postulates and guided by ecological theory, She employed high-throughput metagenomic sequencing with multivariate statistical method, to have revealed that diet plays a more dominating role in shaping gut microbiota than host genetics and identified specific bacterial species/strains that may be contributory to obesity, insulin resistance and inflammaging in mice. Moreover, she has made critical contributions in clinical alleviation of simple obesity, childhood genetic obesity and type 2 diabetes with nutritional modulation of gut microbiota. Her doctoral dissertation was selected as Shanghai outstanding doctoral dissertation. She has been instrumental in projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program). She is PI of one project supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and one project sponsored by Shanghai Yangfan Young Investigator Program. She has published 30 SCI-indexed papers, including 12 papers published in top international journal in the field as the first author or corresponding author, one of which is ESI 1% highly cited papers. One of her researches has been published in Science in March 2018.The total number of SCI citation is 878 times. She is the member of Microbial Ecology Committee in the Shanghai Preventive Medicine Association.

报告摘要:
The gut microbiota benefits humans via short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production from carbohydrate fermentation, deficiency of which is associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Here, we show by a randomized clinical study of specifically designed isoenergetic diets, together with fecal shotgun metagenomics, that a selective group of SCFA-producing strains was promoted by dietary fibers while most other potential producers were either diminished or unchanged in patients with T2DM. When the fiber-promoted SCFA producers restored to greater diversity and higher abundance, participants had better improvement in HbA1c partly via increased glucagon-like peptide-1 production. Promotion of these positive responders diminished producers of metabolically detrimental compounds such as indole and hydrogen sulfide. Targeted restoration of these SCFA producers may present a novel ecological approach for managing T2DM.
